As owners of AKC recognized pure bred dogs, we should be committed to registering those animals with CHIC.  This stands for CANINE HEALTH INFORMATION CENTER.  By doing this, we can help eliminate many genetic faults and diseases.  The aggregate numbers of animals with various faults will be used to finance health studies, based on the prevalence of the problems in the breed, and will serve as a recommendation to breeders on improving the health of the breed while retaining breed type.

The TAMPA BAY CHIHUAHUA CLUB is delighted to present to ALL AKC CHIHUAHUA owners the unique opportunity to have all the health examinations requested by the CHIHUAHUA CLUB of AMERICA at our next Specialty, Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
We are indeed indebted to the thoughtfulness and generosity of two local veterinarians for their willingness to take time away from their practices and donate their professional services to us and our breed.
Dr. Rachel Kelly, DVM will do the health examinations for PATELLAS and HEARTS. 
Dr. Noel McNabb, DVM will perform EYE examintions.
We must require advanced payment and commitments from the participants.  It is unfair to have the Veterinarian pay for the required forms for submission to CERF as an example.  The ORTOPEDIC FOUNDATION of AMERICA will supply the DNA kits to use for those dogs which have not been micro-chipped. Additionall, if individuals wish to have their Chihuahuas micro-chipped, please inform the TBCC Canine Health Chairperson, Myrle Hale as she will order the appropiate CAR chips from the AKC.  The CAR CHIPS will each cost about $13.00 and can be placed gratis.

It is important for us all to know that we are the FIRST CHIHUAHUA SPECIALTY CLUB to offer these services to AKC Chihuahua owners at one time without any thought of profit for the club.
